COMMUNITY SERVICES / MILITARY VOLUNTEER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Freedom To Rock is getting involved with the military community.
Freedom To Rock has partnered with a San Diego school (Angier Elementary) and has created a volunteer program for the military active duty parents to be involved with their children in school. We recognize what our troops do for us, and brought this volunteer program together with our Freedom To Rock military family members. Active duty military parent's don't always have a lot of time to be involved with their children's school's during working hours and we have provided a way for them to get involved.
Many schools have suffered losses of teachers from budget cuts and are in great need for volunteers to help in the class rooms. When military members volunteer they receive higher marks on their evaluations for military performance and the volunteer hours build up towards an award or Community Service Ribbon.
Freedom to Rock has allowed military parent's of Angier kids to take 2 hours a week away from work to be involved with their children’s classroom and education. The military parents earn hours for their evaluations and for the Community Service Ribbon while also helping the school. This has been a big success and while not all volunteers are parents. There are some Aunt's and Uncle's participating also, and some Sailor's doing it just because they love to work with kids. This project has just started originally with just a select handful of Sailor's from the USS Comstock LSD-45 and Andrew Gergurich Principal of Angier Elementary School. Principal Gergurich has been very helpful in setting this up and expanding it to all military parents of Angier kids. He has been very supportive in joining our cause to support all our military in every way we can. We hope to be able to expand this project throughout the area allowing other schools and parents to have this opportunity. Freedom To Rock understands children need their families support and will work hard to make this move further throughout the district.
